Health Institute

At Hippocrates Health Institute we want to build the bridge between alternative and allopathic medicine for humanity.

Starting in 1956, the year the Hippocrates Health Institute was founded by Ann Wigmore (later joined by Viktoras Kulvinskas), we have operated on the belief that given the proper tools and environment, our bodies are self-healing and self-rejuvenating. That was a philosophy practiced by Hippocrates himself and passed down to us today from this father of modern medicine.

As a fifth-century BC Greek physician, Hippocrates treated the body as a whole, not just a series of parts, and taught a natural healing process centered on a wholesome, natural diet. He developed an oath of medical ethics that physicians today still repeat as they begin their careers in medicine. An important part of that original oath, written in 400 BC, reads: “I will give no deadly medicine to anyone.”

This admonition seems to have been disregarded by much of modern medicine as physicians blindly and reflexively embrace the marketing campaign of every new pharmaceutical drug coming off industry assembly lines. They usually decide what to prescribe based on the “education” they received from the marketing representatives for the drug companies.

For a half century we have seen pass through our institute doors practically every illness and disease known to afflict humankind. Some guests arrive after being given virtual death sentences by their medical practitioners. They are told they have only weeks or months left to live. Others come because they believe in preventive medicine, and they understand the importance of detoxifying to strengthen their immune system. Others have come to retard the aging process, control their weight, or simply to enhance the quality of their lives.

Co-Director Brian Clement PhD, LN

Brian Clement, Ph.D., L.N. has spearheaded the international progressive health movement for more than three and one-half decades. He was a team member with Ann Wigmore at the original location of Hippocrates Health Institute in Boston, and helped to move the Institute to Florida in 1986. By conducting daily clinical research as the director of the renowned Hippocrates Health Institute, he and his team have developed a state of the art program for health maintenance and recovery.

The Institute has pioneered a program and established training in active aging and disease prevention. With hundreds of thousands of people participating in this program over the last half century, volumes of data have been accrued, giving Clement a privileged insight into the lifestyle required to prevent disease, enhance longevity, and maintain vitality and stamina.

Among Brian’s many contributions are “Living Foods for Optimum Health”, “Longevity”, and Lifeforce”, which Dr. Colin Campbell called “One of the most important books ever written on nutrition.” One of his latest books, “Supplements Exposed,” will change America’s perceptions about nutritional supplementation. This landmark publication will expose the pharmaceutical fraud rampant globally in the sales, production, and distribution of worthless and harmful vitamin pills. “Killer Clothes,” will explain how seemingly innocent clothing choices endanger your health and how to protect yourself. Brian’s, “Killer Fish”, his 3 Volume Series, “Food is Medicine” and “Dairy Deception” have been recently been published as well.

Brian is first and foremost a devoted husband, a caring father of four children and a grandfather of three grandchildren. In addition to daily counseling and research studies, Brian conducts conferences worldwide on attaining health and creating longevity giving humanity a roadmap for redirecting, enriching, and extending their lives.

The Science

For over six decades, the work accomplished by Hippocrates in the health field has been unparalleled, focusing on the fundamental role that nutrition and unprocessed, unheated plant-based foods play an integral role in the process of disease recovery and prevention. The results that our guests have achieved for themselves support the words of Hippocrates, the father of western medicine who said, “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.”

Modern health science at some point in the 20th century estranged itself from the simple and practical truth—natural and organic fruits and vegetables in their raw state possess restorative immune enhancing properties that allow our bodies to naturally become well. Forgetting that the human body’s cells require continuous nourishment to function and thrive has been one of the greatest mistakes made in Western medicine’s attempts at providing healthcare.

During the Institute’s early days in the mid-20th century, we were enigmas in the world of futuristic science. We saw little support for our basic concepts and our prescription for healthy lifestyles coming from within the nutritional science departments of academia or among conventionally trained physicians.

As the 1980s drew to a close, there was a slight shift in the research community’s traditional apathy about nutrition. Then the 1990s revived serious interest until now, well into the 21st century, there have been tens of thousands of medical science studies performed worldwide that affirm the results of our own half-century of clinical research. We can now present in one place the collected wealth of science data that clearly demonstrates that the most important ingested medicine comes from the very food we consume.

What is the diet?

Hippocrates Diet Bowl

Eating a raw food diet for three weeks might be a new experience for you, and we hope that you’ll find it a pleasant change. We are certain that your body and mind will love fresh, living food, and that you will quickly feel the wonderful results. An integral part of the program’s success is due to the way in which we prepare the food. The focus is on maintaining the bioactive forces present in raw and live vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, grains, and legumes. We hope that you enjoy your dining experience while you are at the Institute.

The Hippocrates diet consists of 80% raw and 20% cooked food to assist you in the transition from a cooked food diet. One hundred percent raw is advised for those working to conquer disease.
