Mission Statement

Plant-based income sharing permaculture community. Goals: sustainable, eco-friendly homes, working together, growing food, sharing income, reforestation, community fun, education, yoga and or fitness, maybe a small animal rescue for injured wildlife one day.

Community Description

Roots To Heal Farmacy is going to be a Permaculture eco income sharing Farm. We believe in sustainable communal living. We will be the first income sharing Farm in Costa Rica as well. The main goals our community is going to have are: plant-based diet, grow 90% plus of our own food, eco-friendly building, starting businesses and sharing income as a community, communal eating, etc. As we start coming together as a community we can discuss things further. We don’t have the land yet. Once we get enough people together to buy the land we will. And once we have the land we could start creating different businesses. Like for example Fruit from farm, vacation huts/ B&B, tree nursery, restaurant, smoothie shack, edible landscaping, tour guide, some kind of internet business, or even come together with a members existing business. and I’m sure there is more we can think of if we put our heads together.

  • Type(s):
    • Commune (organized around sharing almost everything)
    • Ecovillage (organized around ecology and sustainability)
    • Cohousing (individual homes within group property)
    • Shared Housing, Cohouseholding, or Coliving (multiple individuals sharing a dwelling)
  • Location: To Be Determined

  • Status: We do not have land
  • Planned Residence Types:
    • Single-family homes
    • Tiny house
    • Yurt, tee-pee, dome, treehouse, or tent
    • Natural built structues
  • Housing Provided: Included in Membership
  • Land Owned By: A subgroup of community members
  • Additional Comments: We don’t know about the community housing yet. We still have to buy the land we need. Maybe the land we buy might have some housing on it. If it doesn’t that’s fine, we want to build eco friendly homes. We really want everyone to have there own tiny home that way. We get along better, I have been in a couple of community living situations. And feel people will get along alot better if they had there own dwelling. We also want to try and put a couple builds that have co-housing. Where multiple people live together in one building. For volunteers and for people who want to become a member.

  • Adult Members: 2
  • Child Members: 1
  • Visitors Accepted: Yes, rarely
  • Visitor Process: Once we have the property and we are up and running. You will need to email us about visiting the Farm. And we will let you know if we are able to except visitors at moment.
  • Open to New Members: Yes
  • Membership Process: Once we have enough founders to purchase the property. And when we feel like we are ready to start accepting new members. The person or family will have to go through a process. Where they stay for a month or so, so we can see if they are going to be a good fit for the community. And we ask that each person or family donate what they can to the community as well. If accepted to be a member of the community. The only people who will not be able to be voted out of the community will be the founders. Plus they won’t be able to sell the membership if the they change their mind about living there.
  • Additional Comments: Each member of the community will have to do their part. It will be mandatory to work 30-35hrs a week in the community. We will try to make it so each person is doing something they are interested in. But when we first get started we all might be doing things we don’t want to do. But it won’t always be like that. We want people to focus on what they are interested in if possible. Children will not be made to work and we will also figure out a retirement age where you will not be required to work as well.

  • Decision Making: Democracy (majority rule)
  • Identified Leader: No
  • Leadership Core Group: No
  • Additional Comments: There will be no leader who decides everything. We will vote on things if we are having trouble making a decision.

  • Required Weekly Labor Contribution: 30
  • Open to Members with Existing Debt: Yes
  • Additional Comments: We do not care about your pre-existing debt for members. But the community will not pay or be responsible for your debt, so keep that in mind. Unless the community as a whole agrees upon it. Plus we do not care about your credit score either. We are not here to judge anyone about there past. We just want to make a better future for us and our kids.
