Natural & Organic Vegan Skincare

Our Ethos

At Conscious Skincare our philosophy is to make natural and organic skin care with a clean conscience.

‘It started with an essence of an idea, bringing a wealth of texture, aroma, look, feel and colour. Some alchemy to encourage all the elements to engage, interweave, interact, to craft our enriching, soothing, embracing skin care.’

I created the Conscious Skincare range as I suffered with very dry skin as a result of hypothyroidism. Nothing in the marketplace came close to helping. All the products I tried, even organic skincare made using natural ingredients, were simply not rich enough. Talking with family and friends, I discovered many of them had suffered allergic reactions to mainstream skincare.

In more recent years my husband, Quentin developed chemical sensitivity and suffered a severe allergic reaction leading to him being hospitalized.

It really focused our attention on ingredients and the modern toxic world that surrounds us. These events inspired me to create a high quality organic skincare brand. One built with an ethical philosophy, from the sourcing of ingredients to the eco friendly packaging we use.

Over the last 10 years we’ve gained recognition and accreditations by well respected organisations in the natural and organic world. Our products have picked up numerous awards and we have been lucky to work with some amazing organisations!

We developed an exclusive range for The Royal Ballet in London. It was not only a fantastic collaboration, but a great demonstration of the quality and standards we aspire to. It also reflects the design-led ethos we follow, ensuring products look as good on the outside as they are inside.

The National Trust now sells a selection of our products in their gift shops across the UK. It is a great privilege to partner with such an esteemed organisation!

Most of all, our customers who have been of massive importance and enormous support to us on this wonderful journey, with many kind words along the way – so a huge thank you!’

Rebecca, Conscious Skincare founder

Our stance is that palm oil (and its derivatives) has never, and never will be in our products or the materials we use. We’ve been absolutely clear on this policy right from the outset. You can read more about our no palm oil policy and all the other detrimental ingredients we leave out of our natural skincare on our chemicals to avoid page.

Natural, Organic, Vegan & Cruelty Free

At Conscious Skincare we have never, and never will never test our ingredients or finished products on animals. Our Animal Testing Policy is ‘Tested on Humans, not Animals!’

We have never asked, and will never ask any company to perform any animal test on our behalf. As we are not owned by any other company, we are in full control of what we do and how we do it.

We are very proud to be approved by PETA, Cruelty Free International, The Vegetarian Society and the Naturewatch Foundation. You can read more about our accreditations.

We are delighted our products were used in a cruelty-free makeover film by Naturewatch.

It highlights and raises awareness of animal testing and the alternatives to using beauty products that have been tested on animals.

It was fantastic to be involved along with lots of other amazing brands. This film will hopefully influence millions of peoples’ purchasing habits and was made with the help and support of many celebrities including Anneka Svenska, Rula Lenska, Jake Yapp, Daryna Milgevska, Daniel Field and Alexa Riva Ravina.

At Conscious Skincare we believe that beauty products should be cruelty free.

We are proud to have the Leaping Bunny logo on all our products. Leaping Bunny requires cruelty free standards over and above legal requirements.

All of our own brand cosmetic and personal care products are approved under the Cruelty Free International Leaping Bunny programme. This is the internationally recognisable ‘gold standard’ for cruelty free products.

We adhere to a fixed cut-off date policy and proactively monitor our suppliers to ensure that our products continue to adhere to the Leaping Bunny criteria. Our supplier monitoring system is also independently audited.

Below is our Animal Testing Declaration;

‘I hereby confirm that the above named products comply with the criteria of the Humane Cosmetics Standard and have not been tested or re-tested on animals for ‘cosmetic purposes’ by or on behalf of the company or manufacturer named in sections A & B, since 28th March 2011.
I hereby confirm that we have collated raw material declarations for the above products and declare that none have been the subject of animal testing or re-testing for cosmetic purposes by or on behalf of our suppliers since the above cut-off date at the latest.’

Eco Friendly Packaging

It is absolutely fantastic that there’s a much greater focus and awareness of eco friendly packaging. Unfortunately, there is still a huge amount of excessive packaging out there, with everything from toys to bananas in disposable plastic bags and trays!

You can discover more information at Why is plastic a problem?

Did you know in the UK alone we produce over 300 million tons of plastic each year, of which over 50% is single use!

The supermarkets (and many other companies) simply aren’t doing enough to change this and neither are the manufacturers.

Glass Bottles - Eco Friendly Packaging from Conscious Skincare

‘Not currently recycled’ is a phrase we all see far too often. It’s just not good enough!

So what is it about our eco friendly packaging that makes it special and why are we different to other companies?
At Conscious Skincare every month is a ‘Plastic Free July’. For the last 10 years we have always done our best to minimise waste and use great materials for packing and containers.

Our key values

We think long and hard about our packaging and it’s not an exercise you do just once. A lot of experts told us that to look ‘higher end’ we should have all our products in boxes. Yes, they would look lovely on the shelf but what happens to that box as soon as you get it home?

A key goal is to ‘Leave No Trace’.

Whilst we’re not there yet, we really do what what we can to strive towards that end goal.

We’ve replaced our standard and sample PET plastic bottles with glass, meaning our range is now packaged in glass and aluminium!

Refill sizes, packaged in 100% recycled plastic bottles (which are fully recyclable) help to extend the life of your face wash, hair and body products. In addition larger refill sizes will be coming soon!

What materials do we currently use for our containers?

Gifts

Glass – fully recyclable and part of the UK’s most successful council operated recycling schemes

Aluminium – lightweight and recyclable and one of the UK’s most successful council operated recycling schemes with aluminium having been recycled many times already.

HDPE 100% recycled plastic made from post consumer waste – lightweight for shipping and fully recyclable. Low energy required in recycling process.
Conscious Skincare Eco friendly Packaging plans in the future:

Top of the list is making sure that for anything we can’t recycle or compost, that it has a recycling destination. We have found recycling companies who take bulk plastic, turn it into chippings which are then used to make other useful things such as windows.

We’d love to explore materials like cardboard and vegetable wax to create a container that can hold liquids successfully but looks great at the same time.

Ideally we would like fully biodegradable, compostable containers sourced from 100% recycled materials and we hope the packaging manufacturers can step up and manufacture these containers in the near future!
