Oak Haven Counseling and Wellness is for you if you have been on the romantic or sexual relationship rollercoaster for far too long. Constantly seeking validation from others to feel good about yourself has left you drained, discouraged, hopeless. Despite your best efforts, nothing fills that empty space in you. Fears of being alone, rejected, not “good enough” lead you to act in ways you don’t feel good about. No matter what you do to stop the cycle of sexually acting out, emotional or physical affairs, or creating fantasy relationships in your head, you find yourself right back there. No matter what you do to stop the cycle of sexually acting out, emotional or physical affairs, or creating fantasy relationships in your head, you find yourself right back where you started. As the cycle continues the feelings of shame continue to grow, piercing deeper and deeper. The emotional turmoil leaves you exhausted and important relationships and activities are left behind. It feels like you’ve lost all sense of control.
You are not alone. I’m here to help.
I would love to help you break these patterns as well. I know you have what it takes to live the life you want. Let me show you how to leave your shame and fear in the dust.
People who know me will say I am a mindfulness and meditation nerd. There’s a reason for my passion. Through my personal studies and application of mindfulness techniques, my life has radically changed for the better. See my Providers page for more information on me!
Mindfulness is about being in the here-and-now and experiencing the present with a non-judgmental lens. When we learn to be mindful, we stop obsessing about the past, the future, and the “what-ifs”. We learn to view our thoughts and our emotions without getting attached to them. When we take a step back from our thoughts we can decide which are helpful and which we need to tweak.
Compassion for self and others is a theme that is woven through therapy. Self-compassion can address shame that keeps on that relationship rollercoaster. This work can help you realize that you are already a whole person, worthy of love and care. When people realize this, they find that it becomes easier to set healthy boundaries. Compassion for others is an important piece of creating the relationships you want.
Behaviors are used to meet a need, even if it isn’t the best way. We will find out what those needs are and meet them in a healthy manner, breaking that habit of going on that pesky rollercoaster. There may be tough stuff from the past that you need to address, and I will be with you every step of the way. One of my favorite things in the world is when clients come back raving about how applying the skills is helping them tremendously. I can’t wait to help you too!
Now taking clients for in-person services at my office, conveniently located on Lake Blvd in Chisago City, MN.
