OUR STORY
Naturally Tribal is a proudly British skincare brand born from personal experience with PURPOSE and IMPACT in its DNA. In 2014, Shalom Lloyd, our founder, was blessed with the birth of her twins. Her boy, Joshua had miserable eczema – scratch ‘till you bleed’ irritation and she couldn’t bear the idea of smothering his sensitive new skin with chemical emollients and steroids.
As a qualified pharmacist, Shalom understands the enormous value of medical treatments; however, our skin is a huge exchange organ which absorbs a lot of what we put on it. So, when you think about it, what we put on ourselves, and our families skin, should be just as important as what we eat.
She looked to her African heritage for inspiration, recalling recipes containing all natural ingredients, which have been used in Africa for generations. Shalom started to experiment in her kitchen, using high quality Shea Butter as a main base, stumbled across the right formulation and within three days of application, Joshua’s skin cleared!
Sourcing the right high quality and premium natural ingredients is the key to our product EFFICACY and the search for quality ingredients led us to the Kingdom of Essan, Niger State, Nigeria from where our high grade Shea Butter ingredient is sourced.
Today, our business goes beyond the Naturally Tribal range of skincare products and now gives us the chance to make a real difference, improving the lives of women in Africa who make the high grade Shea used in our products!
Expertise and heritage are integral to the Naturally Tribal brand. Our products pay homage to a rich African cultural identity and provide an opportunity for everyone to recognise the significance of the people in Africa involved in our premium ingredients sourcing. We continue to delve deeper for more ancestral, effective, natural skincare recipes and remedies from across the African continent and beyond!

CRUELTY FREE, VEGAN NATURAL and RECYCLABLE
With over 120 billion units of packaging (mostly unrecyclable) produced annually by the global cosmetics industry, we are doing our part to make a difference.
We all have an environmental responsibility to look after our planet. Our products are made of all natural ingredients and are packaged in recycled, recyclable and reusable containers – We call this, ‘Planet Hugging’.
The name Naturally Tribal is significant as historically, people associate the word tribe with negativity, segregation, and otherness. We have used our name to flip this narrative by building a tribe of people of all backgrounds connected by their love of nature, their love for natural products and their love for our planet
REDUCE, REUSE and RECYCLE
Our packaging has been designed from the ground up, with sustainability at it’s heart. Our glass jars include a UV protective layer, to ensure the products inside last longer. We screen print directly onto the glass jars which means no more labels, less waste and better for our environment
We hug our planet by using glass jars and recyclable packaging.
LEAPING BUNNY CERTIFIED
We go further by ensuring that our products are not just great for humans but do not cause any harm to animals. We are cruelty-free and vegan!
All of our own brand cosmetic and personal care products are approved under the Cruelty Free International Leaping Bunny programme, the internationally recognisable gold standard for cruelty free products. We adhere to a fixed cut-off date policy and proactively monitor our suppliers to ensure that our products continue to adhere to the Leaping Bunny criteria. Our supplier monitoring system is also independently audited.
EFFECTIVENESS
Ethical conscientiousness, traceability and authenticity are not just buzzwords to us – WE LIVE THEM, EVERYDAY.
We know our customers are well informed and savvy.
We know that provenance, authenticity and heritage appeal to our Tribers.
We know that retailers and consumers want to know where their products come from.
We are taking it a step further, by transparently showing our customers where our ingredients come from.
RADE NOT AID
We collaborate with the women of Essan by sourcing our main ingredients, including Shea Butter, from their community in an ethical and sustainable manner, providing the infrastructure needed to ensure quality, and the training that will help them progress.
We believe that education is the key to empowerment. When we educate a woman, we educate a family, a community, a nation, a generation!
We are building a factory to ultimately employ up to 70 rural women, creating employment and empowerment.
It is about making sure that the traditions and ancestry that are rooted in this community live on through our products. It also ensures that our Tribers are part of our journey.
