Hairy Jayne is a former hairdresser who makes plastic free hair care products that help women take better care of their dry hair – with a choice of divine fragrances. Our zero waste hair care products are made from the best moisturising ingredients available. Naturally derived, vegan ingredients that cause the least harm to us (and our skin), the planet and our waterways when they go down the plug.

Sulphates and parabens are out, and plant oils and fragrant essential oils are most definitely in. Our sustainable packaging is either plastic free or refillable. All of the products have been registered with the Vegan Society and are 100% cruelty free. We make everything by hand on site here in an old bakery in Bristol, UK.

Once upon a time, years ago, Jayne was a graphic designer. Having spent a large chunk of her childhood colouring-in, she found herself in the world of advertising, and soon she realised it wasn’t where she wanted to be. Following in the footsteps of her grandmother, she started to re-train as a hairdresser.

For many years she worked at award winning hair salons in London, and then later worked for herself. During her 18 years as a hairdresser, Jayne chatted with many women about their hair, listening to the all problems and frustrations that come with having and looking after it.

On holiday once in Morocco, she bought some argan oil. She began to experiment with it, mixing it with essential oils and using it to nourish her dry, over-coloured hair. These little experiments sparked a curiosity that led her to take courses in natural perfume making. And then came the light-bulb moment. She could learn to make her own hair care products! And so the obsession began…

The Hairy Jayne range is very simple and very moisturising. The problem that came up the most for Jayne’s clients was that their hair felt dry. So in our range we have sulphate free shampoos and conditioners of varying strengths, to suit all hair types. A tonic oil for the scalp to keep it healthy and nourished.

And for those days when washing your hair just isn’t going to happen, and it needs freshening up – a hair perfume in three delicious fragrances, plus a dry shampoo powder.

As awareness around the problem with single use plastic pollution has grown, we’ve embarked on a mission to provide good zero waste hair care options. Providing a choice is important to us too, as everyone has their own preference for their hair type. So we’ve made both refillable liquid shampoo and conditioner and plastic free solid shampoo and conditioner bars. As well as a choice of fragrance for them, too!
