marine wildlife conservation organization
Established in 1977, Sea Shepherd Conservation Society (SSCS) is an international non-profit, marine wildlife conservation organization. Our mission is to end the destruction of habitat and slaughter of wildlife in the world’s oceans in order to conserve and protect ecosystems and species. Sea Shepherd uses innovative direct-action tactics to investigate, document, and take action when necessary to expose and confront illegal activities on the high seas. By safeguarding the biodiversity of our delicately balanced ocean ecosystems, Sea Shepherd works to ensure their survival for future generations.
Interested in joining the most active volunteer marine conservation organization in the world? Whether its Sea, Shore or Land Sea Shepherd has a place for you to Defend, Conserve, and Protect, this great planet that we all share! You can choose between Crewing at Sea, Onshore Volunteer, or Ground Crew. Volunteer aboard the Martin Sheen, John Paul DeJoria, and Farley Mowat Sea Shepherd is looking for dedicated individuals to crew aboard our ocean-going ships. Our obstacles are immense.
The motivation to destroy life in our oceans is fueled by material greed. It is easy to recruit crew for money, however, we need to recruit a crew motivated by passion. We need people who are compelled to fight the injustices perpetrated upon whales, dolphins, seals, sea turtles, sea birds, fish, and every living thing in the world’s oceans. We need such people on our ship and in the ranks of our supporters. All marine wildlife and the ecosystems in which they live are worth fighting for. We need your help in this endeavor. The Southern Ocean whale defense campaigns are coordinated by Sea Shepherd Australia Limited, a separate organization, and Sea Shepherd Conservation Society cannot accept donations or volunteers for those campaigns. Did you know that Captain Paul Watson was born in Toronto? Sea Shepherd Toronto is proud of that fact and is also proud to be one of the most successful chapters in North America!
Established in 2010, Sea Shepherd Toronto was the first chapter to open in Canada. We travel far and wide to spread our mission – from our downtown core to the vast Greater Toronto Area, and as far east as Kingston, west as Hamilton, and south to Niagara Falls. Sea Shepherd Toronto has been working hard to share and fulfill Sea Shepherd Conservation Society’s mission to defend, conserve, and protect the oceans and their species. We educate, spread awareness, and raise funds through many outreach initiatives such as festivals, film screenings, fundraisers, concerts, cleanups, school presentations, and more. We also enjoy mingling and having fun with our dedicated volunteers and supporters at Disgraceland, our flagship meetup location.
Our onshore volunteers have joined several campaigns, including Operation Jairo, Operation Milagro, Operation Infinite Patience, Operation Henkaku, and Operation Ice Watch. We are a proud, dedicated, passionate, and hardworking crew!
