About Us

Our business is built around our family, who have been steeped in aromatherapy for 3 generations. The company was born out of special memories of being surrounded by aromas, lotions and potions and being involved in aromatic adventures since the 1970’s. Penny’s mum Shirley Price, learned aromatic skills in the ’70’s and went on to have her own company until retirement, and a couple of years later Penny and Bob began the great and wonderful journey that is Penny Price Aromatherapy. Penny has been trained as a Clinical Aromatherapist and Aromatherapy Tutor since 1983 and Penny Price and the Penny Price Academy of Aromatherapy were born in May 2003.

Family vision and energy drive our business forward, from teaching aromatherapy courses to supplying aromatherapy potions, to creating and manufacturing aromatic formulations for our lovely clients. The family is supported by a loyal team of friends and we all love our work! Our family members include Penny who is the Managing Director, Bob Penny’s lovely husband who does all the important payroll and HR, Ellie Penny’s daughter who is our general manager, Matt Penny’s brother who is our creative designer and project developer and Amiee Penny and Bob’s daughter in law who ensures products are made to perfection.

Being a family business means that you as our customers are really important to us. We rely on your business and we hope we offer you a personal and bespoke service in return by offering you bespoke blends and personal advice in addition to our regular, Vegan and Natural products. Our aim is to deliver great customer satisfaction whether it is for our wonderful products or our accredited and acclaimed Aromatherapy Training Courses. Naturally Farmed

Since Penny Price Aromatherapy was established in 2003 we have always taken pride in creating our quality, hand made products including carrier oils, essential oils and base products. All of our essential oils are naturally farmed without pesticides or insecticides. and we take pride in our policy to not stock synthetic products. We do not use lanolin, synthetic perfumes or animal products in our natural Aromatherapy Skincare. The pure nature of these products ensures they can all be used safely on the skin.Purchasing from Penny Price will give you peace of mind that you are investing in products that reflect our beliefs to only source natural, organic ingredients.

A belief we have held since day one. Our Essential Oils, Carrier, Oils, Base Products, Hydrolats and many more products have been recently certified by the SOIL Association and we are now proud to display there natural badge! Our Vegan Hair & Body Care has also been certified by The Vegan Society.

Our harvests from Southern France and other parts of the world can be visited so that you can be assured of the natural environments and methods of extraction. The quality and wholeness of any essential oil used in aromatherapy practice is of paramount importance irrespective of the cost, whereas when essential oils are used in flavours and fragrances the taste and the aroma respectively are the most important considerations. For the food and perfume industries essential oils may need to be adjusted or changed to suit the particular need of the purchaser or vendor. Therapeutic essential oils come from living plants and possess a living synergy. Synthetic materials, which look and smell the same as an essential oil, cannot replicate this synergy.

Farming methods employed for growing therapeutic essential oil producing plants for aromatherapy should be free of pesticides, artificial fertiliser, located away from main roads and grown in countries with suitable weather conditions. Many factors influence the growth – the amount of sun and rain, the soil condition, the height above sea level. The nearer the sun, the cleaner the air and the more energy is absorbed by the plant.Often non-therapeutic essential oils are redistilled because they need to be “standardised”.

They are also often clarified or rectified. This, while being the norm for perfumery, obviously interferes with the “whole oil” and can interfere with the properties of the oil. Oils for aromatherapy must be whole and unadulterated as this reduces the possibility of skin reactions or side effects. These oils are what we would call theraeputic grade essential oils.

Maintaining Quality

The ultimate value of the therapeutic essential oils used is totally dependent on the quality of the live plants, the way the oils are extracted, and the way they are handled after extraction. High standards that focus on product purity are critically important. The best therapeutic essential oils come from wild, naturally farmed or organically grown plants. Quality oils will always be priced according to the value and rarity of the particular oil, and will never be lumped into one price point based on bottle size.

It should be mentioned that pesticides are not usually distilled because the molecules are not volatile – they are too large. This is obviously important in the case of expressed oils when the pesticides could enter the oil – all citrus fruits should be organically grown to avoid this. Fertilisers that make the plant grow are often not used in poorer areas because the farmers cannot afford them. In some cases, there is no point in making the plant larger as the volume of essential oils produced can remain the same.

All of the Penny Price range of therapeutic essential oils are either organically grown or naturally farmed. The term ‘naturally farmed’ means that the field in which the plants are grown, the environment in which they develop, and the plants themselves are unaffected by pollution, fertilisers, pesticides or any other interferant. To gain an organic certificate for a crop, many farmers in many countries have to pay the government to inspect the field. Since they often do not have the resources to do this (and it is obvious that the oil is organic), the oils are marketed as naturally farmed. These are the oils Penny Price Aromatherapy prefers to buy. The company supports farmers who are diligent in their profession. We believe that to support such people will lead to equality in trade. We hope that you too are happy to support these struggling farmers.

Tested and Certified

Our therapeutic essential oils are laboratory tested with gas chromatography and certified to be true. When these oils are used, the quality is evident in the full vitality of the fragrance.
