As global experts in pure mineral salts, we know what others can’t, we care when others don’t and we do what others won’t.

That’s why we’re the UK’s No.1 trusted mineral salts brand.

THE WESTLAB STORY

The Westlab brand was created by two childhood friends, Scott Livingston and Penny Hamilton.

One of the original pioneers of natural wellbeing products, Penny was flying the flag for chemical free skincare in the early 2000s, a time when this subject was rarely spoken of or understood. Having begun her career in Beauty and Spas, and specialising in sensitive skin, Penny had started to research the unnecessary chemicals used in beauty products and their potentially detrimental effects.

It soon became Penny’s mission to spread the word of the benefits of more natural products and she opened one of the UK’s first day spas that supported only brands that were free from harsh chemicals.

At around the same time, Scott was discovering the benefits of Dead Sea Salt after his young son developed childhood Eczema. He and his wife had been looking for a more natural alternative to traditional skincare products, and a trip to the Dead Sea resulted in an exciting discovery for them. They started to import Dead Sea Salts and spread the word among their friends and family.

One of these friends being Penny, who was struggling to soothe her daughter’s eczema-prone skin. Seeing first-hand how instantly effective the salts were in her daughter’s bath was enough to convince her that they needed to spread the word to a wider audience.

Together, Scott and Penny began their journey in making natural mineral salts accessible to all.

SUSTAINABILITY & CSR

BETTER FOR OUR PLANET – BETTER FOR OUR PEOPLE & ANIMALS – BETTER FOR OUR FUTURE

BETTER FOR OUR PLANET

We don’t feel that bathroom products should ever pollute our planet. Our mineral salts are 100% pure and natural and our products never contain less than 97% naturally derived ingredients.

Sustainability of our products is key to us. We harvest our salts in a controlled manner, so we do not exploit our finite resources. We are also continually sourcing abundant alternatives to the more finite resources to ensure the protection and sustainability of our planet’s natural minerals. Our sources discharge zero waste into the environment.

We have never used microbeads were one of the first brands to join the ‘Beat the Microbead’ movement in 2016.

Our cardboard is made from recycled material and is 100% recyclable.

Our bottles and pots have always been 100% recyclable and will continue to be so.

Our salt pouches are now being packed in recyclable plastic, so look out for the symbol on the new packs as they may take a while to filter through to your high street. You can recycle these with plastic bags at larger supermarkets, or through Ocado. Do also check with your local authority for kerbside collection as this is becoming available in more areas. If your area don’t provide this service yet, then please do urge them to do so.

BETTER FOR OUR PEOPLE AND ANIMALS

We have always been and will always continue to be 100% vegan and cruelty-free.

As part of our commitment to global responsible sourcing we select suppliers who support their local communities to help reduce poverty. This includes funding local schools and medical provisions. In recent times our suppliers have been supporting frontline workers and their families providing their basic needs during the Covid pandemic.

We are committed to supporting causes that inspire or make a positive difference to the lives of others. From an Elephant Sanctuary in Cambodia (elephants actually soak their damaged feet in Epsom salt for pain relief) to helping Paralympians on their journey to the Olympics, to supporting our friends over at Tribe in their fight against modern slavery, we’re proud and honoured to support inspirational people on their journeys and share their stories with our community.

Each year we pledge one tonne of Westlab Salt to charities and heroes around the world.

BETTER FOR OUR FUTURE

We love this planet and the people on it. Sourcing locally wherever possible and continuing to reduce our overall carbon footprint is a top priority for us. From materials to transport, from packaging to resources, we are committed to continually looking for the most viable, responsible solutions to care for our planet, our people, our animals and our future.

RECYCLABILITY
