It’s really pretty simple, so we’ll keep this short.

We set up Bellfield to make exceptional beers that everyone could enjoy drinking.

We love good food, so we brew beers that complement it.

No compromise, just delicious, classic IPAs, hoppy ales and crisp, refreshing and perfectly balanced lagers and pilsners.

Bellfield beers are all certified by Coeliac UK and Registered with the Vegan Society.

Our small team in Edinburgh is dedicated to the craft of brewing great tasting beers that everyone can enjoy.

We’re independent, passionate, committed and proud of it. Every one of us has a stake in the business.

Exceptional beer, no exceptions.

About Us

We opened the Taproom next to our brewery in Abbeyhill, Edinburgh in August 2019. It is about 10 minutes’ walk from Holyrood Palace at the foot of the Royal Mile. In July 2020 we opened an all-weather Beer Garden – currently adapted to provide a safe outdoor space to enjoy a socially distanced pint (or cider, glass of wine, G&T etcetera).

The Taproom and Beer Garden are child friendly (under 18s to 9pm) and well behaved dogs are very welcome. You can book a table or a booth via the Taproom section of the website

While we have regular Food Pop-Ups – outwith these times, customers are very welcome to order in their favourite takeaway food or order food direct to your table (or booth) from our friends at The Safari Lounge.

Pre Covid-19 we also offered Brewery Tours & Tastings, Street Food Pop-Ups, Quiz Nights, Comedy, Food and beer pairings etcetera and we hope to bring these back as soon as circumstances allow.

We installed a new 2,000 litre brew plant at our premises in Abbeyhill, in 2019. In ‘normal’ times you can do a tour around the brewhouse. We hope to re-start tours when public health guidelines allow.

We test our beers at a UKAS accredited laboratory in the UK using the industry standard R5 Competitive ELISA test, to ensure the beer can be certified gluten-free. All certified gluten-free beers are tested using the R5 competitive ELISA as this is the only method Coeliac UK accept for hydrolysed products.

Why Gluten- free?

Bellfield was founded by two friends who are both Coeliac. At that time (2015) there were very few tasty gluten-free beers around. Coeliacs (pronounced see-liacs) have a serious autoimmune disease caused by an adverse reaction to gluten so they cannot eat normal bread, pizza, pasta, crisps, tortillas, ready meals, sauces, pastry, pies, soya sauce or chutneys – and the list goes on. Nor can you drink standard beer. Many other people now actively avoid gluten in their diet.

Gluten adds nothing to the taste of beer as you’ll find out when you drink one of ours! It tastes as good as any beer.
