Discover Slow Fashion – Ethical Fashion Brand based in London
An acronym for Animal-free Designs and Kindness for Nature, ADKN’s primary mission has always been to deliver premium-quality products, respecting very strict ethical and environmental standards. ADKN fights against unethical treatment of employees, against poor working conditions, refuses to use any animal products of any type and engages only in creating garments from sustainable, eco-friendly materials. ADKN stands to prove that fashion can still be beautiful, stylish and sophisticated, without the use of harmful and unfitting materials.
The only award-winning exclusively 100% animal-free, eco-friendly, ethical and sustainable fashion brand made in England, ADKN’s story started in 2013, back when ethical and sustainable fashion were not words often uttered in the same sentence. Following the tragic disaster of Rana Plaza, our founder and director decided that fashion needed to change, horrendous factory working conditions and unethical practices needed to stop and sustainability needed to be embraced. A goal for a better fashion brand was set, which would slowly contribute to help convert the entire fashion industry into a more conscious and sustainable sector.
It was the year 2015 when, given a strong eco-consciousness background and years of having volunteered in projects of reforestation, plastic waste collection and water cleaning, our founder decided to make something out of nothing – clothes out of plastic waste. Four years later and after extensive hard work and research, the story was ready to unfold, with ADKN pre-launching online in 2019 with a small slow fashion collection made from 100% recycled post-consumer plastic bottles, sustainable organic or natural materials, all ethically produced in our own studio in London, UK using green practices throughout the business processes.
Majority of our products are made from 100% recycled plastic waste fished out from waters around the world and processed through chemical free-processes. That means no nasties are left on the finished garments and no microfibers would be released while wearing/washing the garments. It also means that all our RPET fabrics are 100% hypoallergenic and have antibacterial properties – isn’t that great?
In 2019 alone we’ve recycled the equivalent weight of 163,570 2L post-consumer plastic bottles and transformed them into clothes, saved more than 12 tonnes of CO2 from entering the atmosphere and saved approximately 81,000 liters of water. And that’s only the beginning!
Proud winners of Green Business of the Year 2019, awarded by Chamber of Commerce
ADKN established its own green and sustainable studio in London in 2018. We only use 100% renewable energy (it’s vegan too!) and green Juki machines, with approximately 60% less electricity consumption. Our studio therefore save at least 3.5 tonnes of CO2 from entering the atmosphere per year. This is equivalent to planting 1,770 trees.
All our fabrics are sourced either locally or from European suppliers (and some accessories from Asia) who share our vision and have strong sustainability goals of carbon neutral or efficiet logistics, zero-waste production, green processes, air pollution prevention and water-saving technologies. The fabrics are dyed in a waterless process using all natural, chemical-free dyes. All our logistics are either carbon neutral or carbon efficient and we use only biodegradable, recyclable and recycled materials to ship your order. Where carbon footprint cannot be fully reduced, we strive to offset the effects by volunteering with reforestation projects.
ADKN is a firm supporter of classic, elegant and timeless pieces. All our products are designed to offer a well-balanced blend of stylish and practical designs, keeping in mind trends yet ensuring the finished garment will never go out of style. We therefore carefully source all our materials, trims and accessories to be as durable as the style we portray (whilst avoiding all nasty chemicals), so you can enjoy your favourite piece for years to come. It is scientifically proven that organic, natural and renewable fabrics, whilst not only extremely eco-friendly, are also more durable.
At ADKN, we pride ourselves with choosing only the the best, top-notch materials for our garments. In order for a material to be used in our collection, it has to meet a very strict criteria that keeps in mind our unique vision of 100% animal-free, eco-friendly, ethical and sustainable fashion.
We invest a significant amount of time researching new fabrics and new methods of production to make the most suitable selection. We carefully source materials, trims and accessories that match our vision to 100% from countries such as Italy, Portugal, France, China, Turkey, Spain, Taiwan, Japan, Germany, Austria, Hungary and the UK.
Keeping in mind our company vision, we carefully select our suppliers, ensuring their manufacturing processes are not harmful to the environment, are eco-friendly, with no traces of animals at any stage. We also ask all our suppliers to provide certifications for the materials they produce, to ensure only the finest fabrics reach our studio for production.
ADKN’s business policy emphasises equality and fairness on all levels of the supply and manufacturing chain.
The Fair Trade Act has done a lot of wonderful things, fabrics and clothes being produced under safe working conditions. We therefore want to make sure our suppliers are following the same high-standard practices with their employees. We carefully assess the work environment, to certify that ethical measures are in place for all workers.
Our policy involves strictly no use of animal products of any kind. We stand by the vision that high-quality fashion can be achieved without exploiting animals. All our materials are animal-free.
By choosing organic fibres and sustainable fabrics we can reduce our carbon footprint while also trimming the amount of chemicals brought into the world. Given the fact that the fashion industry is only just starting to embrace a more vegan, eco-friendly, sustainable and ethical approach to its processes, materials to meet our criteria were rather rare, with only very few select companies producing everything to our premium standards and matching our vision.
As a result, we’ve selected a small, yet versatile range of materials for our garments. This brings to show that fashion does not have to harm people, animals nor the environment to provide various styles and designs. Moreover, clothes made from organic, natural or renewable fibers are more environmentally-friendly, and the products are more durable.
All our business associates and suppliers work very closely with multiple organisations to ensure animals, humans and nature are in perfect harmony. We pride ourselves to be contributing and collaborating with partners who have a significant involvement in encouraging the use of organic cotton through organisations such as Better Cotton Initiative, and enforce strict ethical standards are used in all processes with Ethical Trading Standard or Fair Wear Foundation. Our natural resources, the health of our environment and its inhabitants (animals and humans) must be our priority and hold a very important role in our company, hence why actions encouraged through the Natural Resources Defense Council, Soil Association or World Wildlife Fund are so important.
Last but not least, we must all make an effort for a more sustainable future, for a better planet for our next generations – we must think and consume in a sustainable manner, supporting the Sustainable Apparel Coalition. All our materials are very carefully sourced keeping in mind the environment, its resources, its wildlife and ultimately its people, and they carry the premium mark of PETA Vegan Approval, GOTS Certified, Global Recycling Standard and/or Oeko-Tex.
