100% Natural`Hair Removal
At Sugar Coated we strive to be as ethical and eco-friendly as possible and are always looking to improve wherever possible. This includes our continued commitment to manufacturing goods that 100% natural, vegan and cruelty-free. We are also very proud to promote British manufacturing.
We are a proudly vegan brand and a company. In many instances these days a company or a brand will make “a” vegan product in their range, but surely making vegan products extends beyond the ingredients. It is about the stance taken not to use any animal products. And because we don’t believe in using any animal products should be used to make cosmetics Sugar Coated is a 100% vegan sugar wax. All our products are made with our 100% natural ingredients and reflect our ethical values of being cruelty free and vegan and we are the only waxing company that is cruelty free and vegan.
Registered by The Vegan Society
At Sugar Coated we do not test any of our products or ingredients on animals, and we are ensuring that our suppliers do the same. The ingredients used in Sugar Coated have been Cruelty Free International (previously BUAV) certified since 1989 and have maintained their high standards ever since. We are proud to be approved as cruelty-free under the Leaping Bunny programme, making us one of the only cruelty free hair removal brands in the world.
Many companies will claim to be cruelty-free or tell you that their product is not tested on animals. But it is so much more than what they do on their property.
Were their ingredients tested on animals previously by their suppliers?
Do they sell into China which mandates animal testing for imported cosmetics?
Do they have other products in their range that are tested on animals or they owned by a parent company that tests on animals?
These all ways in which they are trying to deceive customers.
Just know without the Leaping Bunny logo (or CCF rabbit) know that they are not certified. Find out more about Cruelty Free International at www.crueltyfreeinternational.org
Leaping Bunny approved.
All our manufacturing is done in the UK and is done in our own factory in Northamptonshire, with each batch checked and overseen by Rosie Khandwala the creator of the product.
It has been important to us that we maintain the highest standards and by manufacturing ourselves in our factory, we are able to ensure that every batch that goes out is of the highest quality.
We also endeavour to use British suppliers wherever possible and to support local businesses as much as we can. We are proud to be the only hair remover to display the Made in Britain logo and we will continue to do so.
All Sugar Coated packaging is recyclable and in order to make our product as environmentally friendly as possible, we have become the first ones to introduce reusable waxing strips.
Bees are one of the most important creatures in our ecosystem. They are crucial for pollination of plants that provide an estimated 1/3 of our food production. Bees create healthier and better quality fruits of the plants they pollinate providing us with a delicious, sustainable food supply.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Unfortunately, due to the increasing use of pesticides and the extremes in winter/spring temperatures, the bee populations are declining. Bees are worth around £700m to the British economy and they maintain our beautiful and diverse environment. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We want to help support bees and protect their colonies. We donate our excess sugar syrup to local beekeepers. Sugar syrups mixed with water provide an excellent alternative source of food for bees in winter. When it is too cold outside to find nectar to produce honey, they can use sugar syrup as a substitute.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We just wanted to remind people how important they are to our world and let you know how and why we support them.
All our products and packaging are as environmentally friendly as possible (although this is always a work in progress and we always seek to do better. Our vegan sugar wax is instantly biodegradable (it melts with warm water how amazing is that?) and can be disposed of down the drain without causing any harm to the water.
Our non-woven strips are also sustainable as they can be washed and reused and won’t end up in landfills like most ready coated waxing strips.
All our packaging is a 100% recyclable. We are always conscious of this when seeking out new materials. So, there’s no need to fret when disposing of your Sugar Coated packaging you can throw it in the bin guilt free (or do what we do and convert them into homes for a little potted plant)
Sugar Coated is the brainchild of Rosie Khandwala. Her story goes back to the shores of the Indian Ocean on the north-east coast of Tanzania. Growing up in Tanzania sugar waxing was the only form of hair removal she used. She learnt how to sugar wax from her mother and older sisters. Helping in her cousin’s salon after school as a teenager, she learned the tricks and techniques for the best and gentlest results. When she moved to the UK in 1987 with her young family, she wanted to start working as a mobile beauty therapist but to her amazement sugar waxing didn’t exist, she couldn’t find it anywhere, so she started making her own!
Seeing this glaring hole in the market she and her husband set out on introducing sugar waxing to the UK. Starting manufacturing at home she soon outgrew the kitchen and they found premises nearby where the sugar wax is still manufactured by her today, in the still family owned and operated business.
Rosie got her first breakthrough in 1990 when she approached The Body Shop. It was a match made in heaven. Two ethically minded companies teaming up to introduce something innovative into the market. It was during this time that she also developed her unique recipe which eliminated the use of lemon juice (citric acid) providing and even gentler product that removed the irritation that could be caused by citric acid.
To this day we are the only company in the world who makes a sugar-based hair removal from just sugar and water. After 18 years of successfully supplying The Body Shop Rosie decided to launch her own retail brand in the market called Sugar StripEase. During this time, she introduced washable and reusable strips into the market and put ethical and eco-friendly manufacturing and packaging at the forefront.
After 10 years with Sugar StripEase it is time for a change. Rosie has taken her 30+ years of experience and knowledge of hair removal and sugar waxing and poured it into Sugar Coated.
Sugar Coated is the vegan sugar wax that you know works! It has the heritage and a recipe with a track record. Now we have taken it up a notch and packaged it in a way that reflects all the amazing things about it. This is the “face” of ethical hair removal. Made in the UK by a family owned and operated business with eco-friendly and ethical manufacturing at the heartbeat. Sugar Coated is a product we want you to be proud to buy and share your experience with your friends just as its creator Rosie is sharing hers with you!
