About Cult Candy

Cult Candy is a collaboration between mother and child, Angie Adams and Jazmin Bean. It’s a product of their collective experiences and ideas. Having been approached to create a collaborative makeup brand, Jazmin and Angie were hugely excited to have the opportunity to realise their vision.

Angie Adams is a former all-girl rock band drummer, qualified homeopath, and founder of Cult Candy. She studied at the London College of Fashion before leaving to tour the world with her band Fluffy. Angie formed the all-girl punk band Fluffy with some close friends in the West London/Portobello Road rock’n’roll scene. Signed to Virgin Records, Fluffy’s debut album was released in 1996. The band regularly featured in the press (Melody Maker, Kerrang! and NME, as well as Spin and Rolling Stone magazines), and helped to define an important era in music.

Angie cites some of her musical inspirations as Punk Rock, MC5, Iggy Pop and the Stooges, David Bowie, the Ramones and Siouxie Sioux. Across fashion and media, she’s been influenced by Vivienne Westwood, 80s cartoons and tattoo art. She’s also heavily influenced by Japan, from the Harajuku girls to established artists such as Takashi Murakamiand Yayoi Kusama.

Jazmin Bean  is a multidisciplinary artist, specialising in music and film, who has spent much of their life in London. But they are tenuously tied to everywhere, creating and collaborating with artists across the world thanks to a life spent online.  Having already amassed over 40 million YouTube views and nearly half a million Instagram followers and Spotify listeners – they are the sound and spirit of today’s genderless subculture – unapologetically impossible to define.

Angie says: “Working with Jazz is amazing, as I have so much admiration for their creativity, their commitment to their art and their drive”

Cult Candy: never compromising on standards

What makes Cult Candy stand out amongst other brands is its fundamental commitment to the principles of being vegan and cruelty-free. Cult Candy caters for everyone, whether it’s the wonderful and outlandish or the simpler side of makeup.

We think it’s brilliant that there’s so much more awareness around gender identity now, compared with previous times. But we’re genuinely inclusive – we don’t expect people to have to define their gender identity. What’s important is that people have the opportunity to create individual looks and to express themselves, whoever they are. At Cult Candy, we are what we are on all surfaces.

We also believe fundamentally that it’s vital to meet the highest ethical standards across the board. Everyone should be aware that they need to make a contribution to future, by being more aware of the environment. We’re not going to compromise our identity and integrity to fit in with what’s in fashion at the time, or what other brands are doing. We’ll always be about respect – respect for animals, for individuals and for the planet.

Vegan and cruelty-free makeup

There’s an increasing awareness of the need for humans to be more respectful of the planet. This obviously extends to the creatures that inhabit our surroundings. Movements such as Veganuary have been great. They’ve got the message across that the food and fashion industries cause animals to suffer in innumerable ways. The cosmetics industry in particular is under pressure to eliminate the suffering that animal testing brings. But too often, this understanding has only gone skin-deep.

What does vegan and cruelty free actually mean?

When it comes to changing lifestyles, and picking products, people tend to fall back into old habits. And when it comes to makeup, many people don’t really understand what it means for products to be vegan and cruelty-free. So, what is value? In a nutshell cruelty free has historically always been associated with animal testing, and vegan means that the product doesn’t include any ingredients that have been derived from animals.

While many makeup brands have been cutting out animal-derived ingredients, they’ve not always been cruelty free as well. But at Cult Candy we go the extra mile to ensure that every makeup product we produce is completely vegan, and meets the requirements of the Cruelty Free International Leaping Bunny programme, the best assurance that a brand is genuinely committed to removing animal testing from its supply chain.

No animal ingredients. Cruelty free. Every product.

Cult Candy’s commitment to providing vegan and cruelty free makeup is at the very core of our company. We guarantee that none of our makeup contains any animal ingredients or animal-derived ingredients. This includes, but is not limited to: albumen, beeswax (cera alba), carmine, casein, cholesterol, collagen, elastin, gelatin, glycerine, guanine, honey, keratin, lanolin, oleic acid, shellac, squalene, stearic acid and many other ingredients.

What’s more, we can proudly state that we are Leaping Bunny approved. A global programme, Leaping Bunny requires cruelty free standards over and above legal requirements.

The Cruelty Free International Leaping Bunny programme is the internationally recognisable gold standard for cruelty free products. We adhere to a fixed cut-off date policy and proactively monitor our suppliers to ensure that our products continue to adhere to the Leaping Bunny criteria. Our supplier monitoring system is also independently audited.
