Vegan Skincare, Haircare and Bodycare

Evolve Beauty products are lovingly handmade in small batches at our studio in Hertfordshire, England to ensure the freshness of the precious antioxidants in the natural oils, butters and extracts. Our products are vegan, cruelty free and eco-friendly.

I believe it is time for beauty to evolve. Society is coming full circle and realising that choosing natural ingredients is better for us and our world. Together with a small team of artisans, I design and make each product carefully by hand. This ensures the freshness of the precious antioxidants in the natural oils, butters and extracts.

I want you to experience the joyful everyday moments of using our products with their uplifting scents, delicious textures and effective results.

Be part of the beauty evolution.

Our Manifesto

1. We Evolve Beauty

We believe it is time for beauty to evolve. Society is coming full circle and realising that choosing natural ingredients and green packaging is better for us and our world. We make organic beauty products that are a pleasure to use. We want you to experience the joyful everyday moments of using our products with their uplifting scents, delicious textures and effective results.

2. Made By Us, Not Made Up

We make all of our own products, and that means we know what is in them, why each ingredient is included and where every single ingredient comes from. A large number of skincare brands outsource their production to industrial factories. By making ourselves we are able to innovate and avoid toxic standard practices (like cheap chemical fillers or adding tiny ineffective amounts of active ingredients). We know what is in our products, why it is there and where it comes from. This extra level of involvement we have in every element of product creation, from initial ideas through to the finished product, is what makes us stand out from the crowd.

3. Freshly Made in Small Batches

The way we make our products is what separates us from most skincare brands. Every Evolve product is handmade in small batches in our wind-powered eco studio with the freshest ingredients. Hand making every product may take us slightly longer, but we believe that quality skincare requires skill, time and care.

If you were to visit our studio you would see that we use blenders, dough mixers and other small scale production tools, and that it shares more similarities with a kitchen than an industrial production line. All of this means that we can ship our products to you freshly made, with every antioxidant, oil and extract at its very best. It also makes for a happy workforce and a loyal team.

4. Tried and Tested over 10 Years

We love the fact that vegan, natural and organic beauty is becoming a permanent feature at the forefront of people’s minds, but we are extremely proud of the fact that we have been pioneering this type of skincare for over 10 years. We are constantly learning new things, tweaking our products to help them perform better, and finding new exciting ingredients, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s what keeps helping Evolve to evolve.

5. People and Planet, then Profit

It’s all about people*. The people who use our products. Those who grow or produce our ingredients. Those who work in our studio. And the generations who will live with our impacts on the environment. Because we are family owned we are not beholden to investors who would put profit first. Profit is just our way of growing a healthy business that provides secure employment and can invest in innovation and new ways of protecting the planet from which our incredible ingredients come from.

(*people and other creatures – hence why we are vegan friendly and cruelty free).

6. What Would Nature Do?

Nature is the source of our inspiration. We don’t just use natural ingredients. We use the genius of nature. Many of our active ingredients were developed by another living organism (thank you flowers, kelps, roots and nuts) to help their own cells thrive and prosper in some of the harshest conditions in the world. So, whenever we are searching for a new ingredient that can help with hydration, nutrition, protection, strengthening, elasticity or anything else, our first question is always ‘what would nature do?’

7. Scientific Brain, Natural Heart

We use scientific methods to find the most effective natural solutions to skincare concerns, and create the most effective formulas. We don’t use science to ‘add’ to nature in the form of synthetic chemicals. Instead we use science to help us create the best natural formulations that are intrinsically better for skin. We are led by nature, and guided by science as we believe that this is the only way we can create truly effective natural skincare.

8. Long Termism Goes a Long Way

If you want to run a good venture then you need to think of the long term. Long termism isn’t flashy, throwaway packaging. Nor is it ingredients that mask issues rather than help to solve them. To us, long termism is the drive behind our desire to grow, learn and evolve.

In the long term, people will keep buying and recommending products that genuinely help to achieve healthy and lasting results. So, rather than just simply follow trends, we evolve unique products that actually work. That is why we always take a long-term view when it comes to not only our products, but our customers and the planet too.

9. Nature Hates Waste, So Do We

Nothing in nature is wasted. Every element in nature has a built in recycling scheme, from the packaging (the shell of a seed) becoming next year’s healthy soil mulch, through to a key ingredient (a fallen leaf) becoming nourishment for an earthworm. Here at Evolve we are on a journey to create the maximum amount of enjoyment and pleasure we can from our products by using the minimum  amount of resources possible, and this is a journey we are excited to be on. We are not perfect, but we are certainly striving to be.

10. Honest Leads To Goodness

We believe in full disclosure of what ingredients we use, how natural they are, where we source them from and what their impacts are. We use external audits and standards to keep us honest. We are proud of our products, but we know we could always be better. In an industry known for superficiality, dishonesty and exploiting insecurities… we are proud to make products that are kind, effective, natural and well worth buying.

How we make our products

The way we make our products is incredibly important. I know that customers trust us to do the right thing and we try to repay this trust by being incredibly careful in how we source, manufacture and package our products in every tiny detail. We make our products in small batches by hand and we make sure that every product that leaves our eco studio is of the highest quality.

What we are currently doing

  • All of our products are more than 98% natural and we are transparent about the % of organic and natural in every product
  • We aim to use organic ingredients wherever possible
  • We screen every one of our 150+ ingredients to check it has been ethically and sustainably sourced and it is biodegradable and GMO free.
  • We do not use any animal derived or by product ingredients such as beeswax or milk
  • We do not conduct any animal testing on products or ingredients for cosmetic purposes (which is illegal in Europe).

Current issues we are working on

  • All new ingredients being used will be comprehensively audited going forward to make sure they meet our standards
  • We conducted a palm oil audit as part of our ingredients audit and found that some of our ingredients do contain palm oil which is sustainably sourced.

What we are planning to do next

  • We are in the process of certifying to an independent organic standard and 10 of our formulas have already been certified.
  • We will be obtaining a cruelty free certification this year
  • We will be obtaining a vegan certification certification this year
  • We are working on ISO 9001 and GWP quality certification

Eco Friendly

As artisan producers of natural and organic beauty products, it is our company ethos to make it as easy as possible to be healthy and green in everyday life. We truly respect our incredible planet and are always looking for new ways to be green. We always strive to create our products in the most sustainable and ethical way possible.

Packaging

At Evolve Beauty, we choose to use recycled packaging for all of our products. Our glass bottles are made from fully recyclable glass and we use recycled card for all of our cartons. When it comes to plastic, we opt for 75% to 100% recycled PET plastic, which (unlike PVC) is fully recyclable and if it is put into landfill, it doesn’t leach any chemicals into the soil.

Every piece of card and paper we use (from packaging to marketing materials) is FSC (Forest Sustainability Certified) to help limit deforestation and ensure forests are sustainably managed.

The grass paper packaging that we use for our cartons is uniquely natural. It is made with up to 40% natural grass fibres which are harvested close to the factory where the cartons are crafted. This natural production process results in cartons that are not only FSC certified and recyclable, but also completely compostable in your home compost bin.

Our labels and packaging are printed using non-toxic soy and vegetable-based inks.

We encourage our customers and our artisans to recycle everything we can, and we’re always on the lookout for new ways in which we can reuse or upcycle our used product packaging!

We are currently looking for hygienic and environmentally friendly ways in which we can refill our products for our lovely customers. We currently don’t have the resources for this, but will offer this service as the company grows.

Sourcing Ingredients

We buy natural and organic ingredients from as close to home as possible and from fair trade and sustainable sources. Every ingredient is thoroughly screened to check its clean, eco and ethical credentials.

We choose to buy our exotic active ingredients in powder form, so that they don’t transport excess water and only ship the core ingredients. We also purify all of our own water, to ensure that we aren’t transporting it around unnecessarily.

We have never and will never use plastic microbeads in our products. Instead, we use natural exfoliants, such as sugar granules and upcycled blueberry particles, and therefore proactively protecting our oceans.

As recent studies have suggested that certain chemical UV filters can damage the health of corals, we instead use reef-friendly non-nano Zinc Oxide in our Climate Veil Tinted SPF.

Our Eco Studio

Whilst our artisans are always full of energy, we try to limit other forms of energy usage on-site in our studio. This includes the energy we use to produce, transport and sell our products to our customers.

We’ve furnished our eco studio with sustainable flooring, we’re using recycled carpet and recyclable non-slip flooring which are reminiscent of natural materials. We’re also using recycled astroturf in our break area, where the whole team gathers for lunch everyday to catch up and unwind. The whole studio is also powered by sustainable energy and we’ve fitted it with eco-friendly motion activated LED lighting.

We try to make our products in an energy-efficient way, encouraging our team to switch off equipment and replacing less-efficient equipment.

We do our best to avoid unnecessary travel, through using public transport, carpools and where possible, arranging telephone and video conference meetings, rather than face-to-face.

In our eco studio, we only use reusable crockery and cutlery, rather than disposable items, and we minimise paper printing where possible.

Cruelty-Free and Vegan

All of our products are both cruelty-free and suitable for vegans, which means that no animals are harmed at any stage of our business.

Our Story

I launched Evolve in 2009, inspired by my own healthy living journey and my belief that companies should do good as well as doing well. Evolve is designed to make it easy for people to take small steps towards being healthier and greener in their everyday lives. I have always found natural and organic food and beauty products to be beneficial and they helped me in my own journey towards better skin.

I am very involved in the creation of every Evolve product, alongside my team of formulation and product experts. I personally research every ingredient to make sure it meets our strict ingredient guidelines and I also hand blend all of our essential oil blends.

When I first launched Evolve it was very tiny and we worked with a UK based manufacturing partner. In 2014 I decided to open our own studio to make our products by hand in small batches. This enables us to ensure our products are of the highest quality and to maximise the freshness of the precious oils and butters. We now have a team of over 20 artisans and support team members who all care about every product we make.

I hope you enjoy using your products as much as I have enjoyed creating them. The best part of my job is hearing that our products have made a difference to someone. Do let me know what you think.
