Our Story

The Scence Skincare lab is beside the sea in (sometimes) sunny Falmouth, Cornwall.

Krista and Mel have been researching, formulating and perfecting the Scence range for several years, creating an artisan range of nourishing balms for the face and body alongside our ever-growing team.

We use only the highest quality, natural and organic ingredients that are both nourishing for your skin and kind on the environment.

Together, we also developed our paper-based packaging, which is completely plastic-free, fully compostable and recycleable.

Hello, we’re Krista and Mel,

We are two sisters developing handmade skincare products in our eco-friendly lab in Falmouth, Cornwall – we even generate our own power using solar panels on the roof!

We have always been interested in natural oils and the efficacy of herbs, and felt frustrated that so much of the natural skincare on offer was packaged in single use plastic containers and applicators. We knew we were not alone in feeling this conflict and felt strongly that the way forward was to develop new ways of packaging the brand without compromising the environment.

After making balms for family and friends that needed help with eczema and sensitive skin, we were particularly interested in addressing specific needs as well as developing a really effective deodorant that didn’t use questionable ingredients like aluminium.

The result is Scence skincare – beautiful, nourishing, natural and vegan ingredients, all poured into our paper-based, compostable & recyclable packaging. We’re Making Scence

Our Packaging

Our natural, eco-friendly packaging is more than recyclable, it’s 100% domestically compostable so we ensure we aren’t adding to the single-use plastic problem in the world.

We have spent several years working with our UK packaging supplier to develop our paper packaging with a unique push-up applicator design to keep your product fresh and easy to use.

Our Ingredients

Our ingredients are all natural, nourishing and vegan. We have been working to balance and perfect our formulas.

Wherever possible we use organic ingredients, with every element carefully selected for the beautiful healing and soothing benefits they bring to the skin.

All our suppliers also support sustainable harvesting.

We Believe…

We create our natural, vegan skincare by sticking to the things we really believe in.

Our passion for hand-crafting beautiful, nourishing products means the Scence team, and all our lovely customers, can make good choices that care both for their skin and for our planet.

In Vegan Skincare…

Why make our skincare vegan? Because we can!

There are lots of beautiful plant & mineral-based alternatives which mean we don’t need to use ingredients derived from animals. All of our ingredients are plant derived and cruelty free. We only use vegan waxes such as myrica and sunflower.

In Plastic-Free Packaging…

We’ve worked with a UK packaging producer to perfect our paper tubes & jars.

They are fully compostable, with a food-grade greaseproof inner lining to protect & preserve the balms.

In Not Compromising. Ever.

From choosing the highest quality ingredients, to keeping our products free from parabens, aluminim and any other nasties, we’re committed to creating products that do good, with no compromise. We don’t use parabens in our products as all our balms are anhydrous so don’t require preservatives. We use Natural Vitamin E oil (non GMO) in some of our products as a natural antioxidant.
