“I want to be the person my dog thinks I am.”

I remember seeing that slogan on a bumper sticker and it got me thinking – Don’t we all want to be the best version of ourselves?

Therapy is a good place to start. But finding a good therapist isn’t easy. Especially one who understands the unique and difficult challenges you face as a vegan.

I’m Nancy Ellner. I’ve been a therapist for more than twenty-five years and a vegan for nearly three.

I get it. How important it is to have somewhere to turn to for support. To have someone in your corner who understands what it’s like traveling this path and living in a non-vegan world.

That’s why I’m here.

VeganCounseling.com is for you.

Take a look around, see what I have to offer, and contact me if you have any questions or to get a free 20 minute consultation.

Help is just an email or phone call away!

*Services are offered in the state of California and outside of the United States.

Are you struggling?

You may be feeling anxious or depressed, worried about the future, discouraged, hopeless, grieving, or in despair.

Perhaps you’re the only vegan in your household or social circle and you’re tired of defending your ethics and values.

You feel unsupported, isolated, and misunderstood.

You may be feeling stuck, lonely, unfulfilled.

Something’s missing in your life and you don’t have a clue where to find it.

Or what it is.

You’re restless at work, frustrated in your relationships, or traumatized by recurring thoughts and images of animal cruelty, feeling helpless to stop the suffering and abuse.

You may be angry at your partner or angry at the world.

You realize its time to get help. To take back your life.

So you decide to see a therapist. It’s a big step. And it takes courage.

Even during the “best” of times just the thought of finding a therapist can be overwhelming. You want someone compassionate and skilled.

A counselor you feel comfortable with and is easy to talk to. Someone you can trust.

A therapist sensitive to the unique challenges you face as a vegan.

You want to feel understood.

vegan counseling nancy

As a vegan and a psychotherapist for 25 years, I know how difficult and heart-breaking it can be dealing with the daily realities of living in a non-vegan world.

Issues related to depression, anxiety, grief, shame, anger, betrayal, trauma, intimacy and feelings of helplessness are pervasive in the vegan community.

You may be facing similar challenges and I understand how painful and deeply frustrating they can be.

In therapy we can work through these issues, develop new strategies to help you manage powerful emotions, and identify old patterns and fears that may be hurting you and holding you back.

Therapy offers profound opportunities for healing and growth.

I can help you connect to your inner strength and resources, develop more meaningful relationships with yourself and others, and deepen your capacity for joy and connection.

It’s time to feel better!

To move forward. Even a small step can lead to meaningful and lasting change.

You can break free of the old pain that has been keeping you stuck and lead a vibrant, more purposeful life with a sense of ease and emotional well-being.

About

about vegan counseling nancy elner

My Transition from Psychotherapist to Vegan Therapist.

For more than two decades my greatest passion in life was helping others to heal and grow through my work as a psychotherapist.

After I went vegan in 2015, things changed. My mission broadened and animal rights advocacy became a defining aspect of who I was as a person and, inevitably, who I would become as a therapist.

VeganCounseling.com is a reflection of that change.

Animal rights activism and vegan advocacy come in numerous forms. If you ask 20 vegans how they define the terms, you’ll probably get 20 or so different answers. Using my skills and passion as a therapist to counsel and support other vegans is what I do.

My background and training as a psychotherapist (Licensed Clinical Social Worker) is extensive. I earned a Masters Degree in Clinical Social Work from New York University in 1993 and I’ve been in the field of psychology ever since.

I have a broad range of experience treating individuals, couples, and families in a variety of therapeutic settings across New York and California. Some areas of expertise include: depression, anxiety, relationships, stress & burnout, grief, trauma, chronic illness, major life transitions, gender identity and self-empowerment.

My therapeutic style is warm, engaging, and intuitive. I offer a safe and nurturing “space” so that you feel at ease and we can work comfortably and productively together. If you have any questions or if you would like to schedule a free phone consultation contact me today!
