Farm Sanctuary in Oregon

However you found us – whether through the Jane Velez-Mitchell livecast or some other way – we’re glad you stopped by.

This is a magical place, and we don’t just think that because we’re biased!

Wildwood Farm Sanctuary rests on 98 acres of pristine, lovingly preserved land that has been in our founder’s familyfarm1 since the 1930s. When our founder and president Shauna Sherick was a child, her grandparents raised cattle, pears, and hay here. Shauna spent her weekends and summers here, befriending the animals, rescuing nestlings and injured or orphaned wildlife, hiking the forest, playing in the streams, and dreaming of the future.

This is how Shauna’s dreams came true.

She lives on the land now. Her sons play in the forest and streams, just like she did. True to her love of animals and nature, she’s working as a veterinary technician at a local clinic and saving lives on her family’s land. Wildwood is home to more than 100 animals rescued from cruelty and neglect in animal agriculture. Some were seized, starving and sick, by law enforcement. Some were surrendered by people who had a change of heart – people who thought they were simply raising “Thanksgiving dinner” or a 4-H project and instead realized they were nurturing an intelligent, sentient friend who values life and wants only to enjoy that life in peace.

Nature ThumbnailWhile rescued animals graze Wildwood’s rolling pastures or explore the shady slopes of the oak savana, newts and frogs and migratory birds thrive in the property’s wetlands. Pears and hay still grow on the property’s cultivated acreage, while lush acres of untouched forest Mainprovide home and refuge to deer, bobcats, birds, and the occasional black bear. We also partner with Portland Audubon to release rehabilitated wildlife here, letting them live out their lives, wild and free, on this land.

Please explore our website to learn more about our rescued animals, our wildlife, and our mission.

At Wildwood, we aspire to inspire. Please join us in our work of Protecting Nature, Promoting Compassion, and Inspiring Change.

There are many ways to visit and become involved at Wildwood Farm Sanctuary. The easiest way is to attend one of our regularly scheduled work parties, but we also host several events throughout the year and are occasionally able to accomodate group tours. Wildwood Youth Tour Guidelines

General Guidelines

Being here:

  • Our residents are on special diets for the sake of their health. We welcome donations of fresh produce for the animals to enjoy, but please DO NOT FEED THE ANIMALS without staff approval and assistance.
  • Do not enter paddocks or pastures without first checking with designated staff.
  • Wildwood is a haven for wildlife too, so be on the lookout for snakes, spiders, bees, mice, and other natural residents.
  • Because of their histories, some of our animals have oddities or deformities. Please know that they are receiving appropriate care that allows them to have comfortable lives and we love them just the way they are.

Accommodations:

  • Wildwood Farm Sanctuary does not discriminate against visitors on the basis of disability. We encourage you to let us know in advance if you need accommodation.
  • For our guests and volunteers, we have a porta-potty with hand sanitizer and an uncovered area with picnic tables.

To Bring or Not to Bring:

  • Out of respect for our residents, the sanctuary is a vegan facility. You are welcome to use our picnic area if you bring plant-based food (no meat, eggs, dairy). We are happy to provide food ideas!
  • Leave companion animals at home. We love all animals, but for the safety and comfort of all, we cannot allow dogs or other pets on the property, including in visitors’ vehicles.
  • All visitors must wear closed-toed shoes. Muck boots are best, because the ground is muddy in the rainy season. No flip-flops or other open-toed shoes.
  • There is absolutely no smoking or alcohol allowed on the sanctuary premises.
  • Please bring a refillable water bottle to help us reduce waste.
  • Please plan for weather. There is limited cover from sun and rain, so dress accordingly.

*Note about Pets*: We love ALL animals here, but please leave your dogs and other furry friends at home when you visit the sanctuary. Dogs can frighten our residents, and since this is their home we want them to feel as secure as possible!
