Vegan Therapist in Washington State

Welcome, we are glad you’re here. It takes a great amount of strength to reach out when we need it, and we are here to support you on your courageous journey.

We are living through difficult times and many of us are becoming aware of the things in our lives that aren’t working for us any longer. Some of us may be impacted by old wounds that never had the chance to fully heal; some of us are realizing we aren’t living our lives in a way that aligns with how we want to live. We believe that every person has the capacity to heal and live a life of meaning and positive well-being but that often, many of us do not have the support or skills that we need to make changes in our lives.

In our work together, we will take a client-centered approach to help you feel supported to gain the skills you need to make changes in your life. Our goal is empowering you to use your strengths to tap into your inner healer in an open-minded, non-judgmental space. We believe you have all that you need already within you, and our job is to help you remember who you are in mind, body, and soul.

About

My name is Destiny Rendon (she/they) and I am the owner of Enchanted Forest Counseling and Therapy, PLLC.

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (#LH61161616) based in Olympia, Washington. I became a counselor because of my own healing journey and a desire to help others who walk this path as I recognized throughout my own therapy how important it is to have a place where we can have open-minded, unbiased, and non-judgmental support from a professional who cares about your growth.

My therapeutic style is an integrative, holistic approach and uses a variety of therapeutic styles and techniques that are client-centered, growth and process oriented, and strength-based. My practice is informed through an anti-oppression framework, feminist, and social justice lens. I also identify as a member of the LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent communities, believe Black Lives Matter, and provide affirming care. In my free time I enjoy being in nature, live music, cooking, mycology, traveling, and hanging out in my hammock reading a good book.

SERVICES

WHO WE SEE

We typically work with individuals ages 18+ via telehealth who may be struggling with trauma, PTSD, eating disorders/disordered eating, body image, self-esteem, existential crisis, spiritual emergency, psychedelic integration, life transitions, depression, anxiety, grief/loss, violence, abuse, oppression, family of origin issues, adverse childhood experiences, meditation/mindfulness, dream work, spiritual/religious issues, gender identity, sexuality, self-harm, mood disorders, difficulty with emotion regulation, and burnout. Destiny specializes in the treatment of trauma, eating disorders, psychedelic integration, and issues relating to veganism/vystopia. See below for more information.

We will use a variety of methods and techniques that are individualized to you and your needs. We have experience and advanced training in modalities such as Dialectical behavioral therapy, Psychedelic integration/Psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy, Psychodynamic therapy, Nature-based therapy, EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Transpersonal psychology, Buddhist/Eastern psychotherapy, Mindfulness, Client-centered therapy and Cognitive behavioral therapy.

We work from a strength-based perspective where we don’t just highlight the things that don’t work for us, but to strengthen the areas of ourselves and our lives that we already have within us. We believe that every person has the capacity to tap into their inner healer when we have the skills, support, and right conditions.

Even though we may be doing individual therapy, we understand that people do not exist without the context of our larger communities and society. Whether it’s school, work, family, relationships, religion, ethnic background, race, sexuality, gender identity, or disabilities, we recognize that these systems impact who we are and our overall well-being and we acknowledge their place in our therapeutic process.

TRAUMA THERAPY

Have you wondered why you couldn’t just “get over” the things that have happened to you? Are you feeling isolated from others because they don’t understand what you’ve been through and how it impacts you today? Most of us have experienced some form of trauma or loss in our lives, but we live in a society that does not always prioritize our wellness and processing the emotions that come from these experiences.

When we aren’t able to process the things that have happened to us, it can lead us to repressing or avoiding emotions and experiences which can negatively impact our mental and physical health, relationships with others, sense of self, and hope for the future. We know it can seem daunting, or even scary, to think about reaching out to therapy for trauma but you don’t have to carry this burden alone. We will work together to holistically process trauma in a way that empowers you, with modalities that best fit you and your goals in a client-centered approach.

EATING DISORDERS

Do you experience anxiety when thinking about food or eating? Have you struggled in your relationship with food and body image? You are not alone, almost no one remains unscathed from the culture we live in that normalizes dieting, disordered eating, and obsessing over thinness, anti-aging, and how our bodies look.

Approximately 30 million people in the U.S. will struggle with an eating disorder and more than 70% of people won’t get access to treatment due to barriers like stigma and misinformation. At Enchanted Forest Counseling and Therapy, you will have a safe place to explore what a healthy relationship to food and your body means for you. We work from a Health At Every Size® framework to help people make peace with food, movement, and body image.

PSYCHEDELIC INTEGRATION

Many cultures have used psychedelic and plant medicines for healing for centuries. With a new resurgence in research on the benefits of psychedelics and plant medicines for healing depression, PTSD, eating disorders, etc. people have been turning to these alternative treatments for relief. At Enchanted Forest Counseling and Therapy, we offer psychedelic integration and harm reduction services. Due to the fact that most psychedelic medicines are Schedule I substances in the U.S. and therefore illegal, we are not able to provide psychedelic-assisted therapy at this time.

However, we want you to feel supported to be able to share your experiences with psychedelic and plant medicines in therapy without feeling negatively judged so that you are able integrate and incorporate the insights and lessons from the medicines into your healing journey and promote overall well-being while reducing the risk of adverse effects that may result from psychedelic and plant medicine use through a harm reduction approach.

Destiny is currently receiving Psychedelic Therapy Training through a three year intensive PhD program in Psychedelic Studies to provide psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy to prepare for FDA approval of psychedelic medicines when those treatments become available.

*We do not provide or condone the use of illegal substances. There are significant legal and medical risks associated with psychedelic use and these risks may be amplified for those who are experiencing mental health challenges*

VEGAN/VYSTOPIA COUNSELING

Many folks who are vegan, vegetarian, or vegan-curious experience an “existential crisis…by a deep anguish at the systematized cruelty towards animals they had become aware of” which has been coined as vystopia by Psychologist Clare Mann. Many vegans will experience symptoms of depression, anxiety, trauma, and grief due to the awareness of animal cruelty and experience hopelessness and existential anguish of being vegan in a non-vegan world. Sometimes these symptoms are pathologized by medical and mental health professionals as mood and eating disorders.

As a vegan therapist, Destiny knows first-hand the stigma within the medical and mental health communities as veganism is often confused as a diet or form of a restrictive eating disorder rather than what it is, a moral and ethical stance against the exploitation of all animals. You deserve mental health care that understands vystopia and therapy services that explore how it may be impacting your overall health and strategies for working through these difficult emotions.
